India Horse Safari in the Hills of Merwar

A wonderful two week India horse safari from Chittorgarh to Udaipur that will show you India at its most natural and magical.

Riding the fabulous Marwari horse, a breed renowned for its grace, elegance and exotic beauty, you will travel through the southern fringes of the Aravelli Hills – a region famed for high plains and plateaux, forests of juniper, unspoilt rural villages, lakes and ancient temples – making it the perfect location for such a trek.

Staying in beautifully located and well appointed camps, sometimes in old forts and lodges – home to Narendra’s relations – we reach Udaipur, one of the most beautiful towns in India.

Included in India horse safari trip are two nights at the stunning Castle Bijaipur and three nights in Udaipur, making this tour a fabulous way to see a side of Rajasthan rarely glimpsed by tourists.

“From the moment we stepped out of the plane in Delhi we were living in an amazing fantasy land – every one of our senses were stimulated – the Marwar horses were superb, the trek was just stunning, and every night we experienced magnificent Indian hospitality. We had dreamt, thought about and discussed this holiday for 15 months and it was even better than our wildest dreams.” Susie

More Details

Accommodation: In Rajasthan you will experience some of the finest accommodation the subcontinent can offer. From wonderful converted palaces, castles and forts to smart tented camps – you will not be disappointed. Indeed the accommodation we use in Rajasthan is one of the main joys of visiting the land of Kings.

However this is still India and in certain forts – now private residences – facilities are sometimes not quite up to a Western standard and therefore patience is occasionally required. When out riding, part of your trip will be camping in spacious, 2 person walk-in tents.

Any accommodation mentioned in the itinerary is subject to availability and if not available substitutes will be of a similar quality or interest.

Transport on this tour will be in a train, coasters and vintage jeeps… and of course your Marwari steed.

This operator is a multi-award winning adventure travel company specialising in small group tours and tailor made holidays to some of the most extraordinary destinations across the Indian sub-continent, Central Asia, the Middle East, Africa, South East Asia, Latin America and Europe. We love their unique, original itineraries – whether they are for small group travel or individually created for tailor made clients – allowing you to take journeys that venture beneath the surface of the region.

They don’t source itineraries from other agents, nor do they run the same tour over and over (thus creating a ‘tourist circuit’, spoiling an untouched region). Instead, they rarely run any group tour more than a couple of times a year and they are on routese they have discovered for themselves, to give a truly authentic, off-the-beaten-track experience.
