An exhilarating 6-day sea-kayaking and hiking expedition of Breiðarfjörður bay in the west of Iceland, the country’s premium kayaking spot. This stunning bay separates the Snæfellsness peninsula from the Westfjords and is scattered with over 3,000 islands and islets of every shape and size very few of which are inhabited.

The first 3 days of this kayaking in Iceland trip will be spent exploring this archipelago making landfall at islands as the opportunity presents itself. Overnight you’ll camp on the shores with views looking out over the mountains that encircle the bay including the Snæfellsjökull glacier to the west and the rugged Westfjords peninsula to the north.

The second half of the trip will take you up the Snæfellsness peninsula to  hike and explore beautiful and rarely visited alcoves, sea cliffs and beaches culminating in a drive up to the awe-inspiring Snæfellsjökull glacier.

Itinerary

Day 1
Following an early morning cruise from Reykjavik to the small fishing village of Stykkishólmur you’ll spend the rest of the day planning and getting ready for the next few days of paddling.

Days 2-4
3 days of adventurous paddling through the beautiful archipelago of  Breiðarfjörður bay stopping at night to camp and cook along the shore with incredible views of the surrounding mountains. On the evening of day 4 you’ll return to Stykkishólmur.

Days 5 & 6
From Stykkishólmur village you will cruise along the Snæfellsnes peninsula towards the Snæfellsjökull glacier and camping along the way on the evening of day 5. The following day you’ll explore the magnificent alcoves, sea cliffs and beaches of this awe-inspiring and seldom visited area, culminating in an afternoon drive all the way up to the roots of the Snæfellsjökull glacier and an evening walk from Arnarstapi, your final camp site, to Hellnar alcove for some delightful fish soup in the Fjöruhúsið Resaurant. The morning of day 6 you’ll be driven back to Reykjavik to arrive around lunchtime.
