Sail across the Atlantic Ocean in the ARC 2022 or 2023 in the greatest rally of all.
To sail across the Atlantic Ocean is a dream for so many people and there are few better ways to do it than as part of the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers.
The ARC is a world famous event that brings together a fleet of some 200 boats and 1200 people every year to sail 2700nm across the Atlantic from Gran Canaria to Saint Lucia. You’ll sail in the warm trade winds just north of the Equator and experience a beautiful downwind sail all the way to the Caribbean, sometimes all alone and sometimes with other yachts in the fleet passing by on the horizon.
You start with two days of training in Gran Canaria to help you get comfortable with the yacht and there are lovely social events put on during these days as the excitement builds across the fleet. The yacht is a Clipper 60, regarded as one of the great ocean going yachts ever built.
Why you'll love this adventure
- Expert sail training for beginners and experienced sailors on a world class race yacht
- Experience not necessary but passion for adventure a must
- The thrill of the crossing mixed perfectly with the social atmosphere of this epic rally

Join 200 yachts and 1500 people all coming together for one amazing Atlantic Crossing under sail. Taking part in the ARC social itinerary as crew of one of the finest ocean yachts ever built, there should also be time for some Caribbean Cruising at the end of the crossing
The price includes everything except for flights and travel insurance. Foul weather clothing is provided as is all safety equipment such as life jackets. The trip is suitable for novice sailors as full training is given by two experienced instructors, although we advise you to talk to the operators before booking if you have never sailed before. The yachts are Cat 0 coded – meaning they have the very highest spec of safety equipment on them. All meals are included and all training. You’ll only need to bring clothes, a sleeping bag and some waterproof boots, though we consider a camera essential as well!
(Not Included: Flights, travel insurance and meals ashore.)
Accommodation on board is in the standard layout for ocean going expedition yachts. You will be in bunk beds in a cabin holding 4-6 people. There are two showers and toilets on board, a comfortable saloon and galley.
This is a hands on sailing adventure and you will be part of the team cooking and keeping the yacht in good shape on passage. There is an emphasis on providing really healthy, fresh food. In this part of the world you will often succeed in fishing for your food – but don’t worry, there’s plenty of food you don’t have to catch as well!
Who is this trip for?
Anyone looking for an ocean adventure where you are fully involved. This is an adventure and exploration holiday where you will benefit from some top level training.
Crews are generally an equal mix of genders and a wide age range, with many people coming alone. Previous sailing experience is not essential but we would advise you to contact the operator before booking if you have never sailed before.
Is this for me?
This is not a beach holiday, but it’s also far more fun! You don’t necessarily need any prior sailing experience or physical prowess – just a sense of adventure and a willingness to muck in.
Will I sail in a storm?
Not unless we can’t help it! While the yachts can handle pretty much anything at sea, the itineraries are set to allow time to sit out any rough weather in port and then take advantage of the best weather windows. This is a long distance Atlantic crossing, though, and we can’t guarantee good weather all the way!
I have dietary issues. Can I still come?
Probably yes, as most diets can be accommodated. However, it is worth checking with the operator before booking.
We love this sailing company’s ethos – to help people do three things: sail, train and explore. They are passionate about enabling people to experience life out on the open ocean, building sailing skills and exploring some beautiful countries. After years of training people to become professional sailors, and having covered thousands of miles between them, the company Founders realised that so many people had dreamt of setting off across an ocean, but hadn’t the skills, the boat or crew to make those dreams come true.
The company now runs expeditions on a specialised 60’ yacht to some of the most exciting places out there – often largely inaccessible from land. With no previous sailing experience required, the two instructors will guide you every step of the way as you develop your sailing skills, maybe even earning an RYA qualification during the week. Exploring on land as they go is just as important and the bikes and a kayak mean you can head off and enjoy everything there is to see along the route.
