5 days mushing your own dog team in the Finnish Arctic
The Finnish Laplands lie at 68 degrees north. It’s a stunning wilderness landscape that boasts the cleanest air in Europe, miles of frozen lakes, pine forests, and the dramatic Pallastunturi Fells.
In order to best appreciate this marvelous place, you and a small group of adventurers will load up your sleds and embark on a hut to hut dog sledding tour. Take in the views from behind the dogs during the day, and enjoy secluded wilderness cabins at night.
Dog sledding has been classified as moderately challenging by the operator. You’ll travel up to 40km per day which will take up to seven hours including breaks. There are daily tasks to help with – like watering and feeding the dogs, harnessing and unharnessing them, general camp housekeeping, and packing/unpacking the sleds each day. You’ll be well trained by your guides and by the end of these eight days, you’ll be a pro.
Be prepared for cold and unpredictable weather patterns that are very much a part of the total sense of adventure that comes from the Finnish wilderness. From your start in Harrinivia to the deep forests and back again, you’ll be amazed at the spectacular scenery, climate, and seclusion of this area.
