Embark on an extraordinary journey from the tranquil havens of the Maldives, across the Arabian Sea, to the vibrant city of Mumbai.

This one-of-a-kind adventure begins as participants join the yacht in Male, meeting the skilled skipper, Emily Caruso, and fellow crew members. Spending a night aboard, you’ll contribute to the planning of the 1,000NM sail to Mumbai.

Launching into the voyage on a 50ft open deck racing yacht promises a thrilling experience. Under the expert guidance of Skipper Emily, an adventurer with a wealth of experience leading expeditions worldwide, participants receive a comprehensive briefing and gain confidence sailing this high-performance yacht. The vessel, thoughtfully refitted for comfort, offers cabins, air conditioning, and other amenities, striking the perfect balance between speed and luxury.

Emily Caruso has led expeditions to some of the world’s most isolated and untouched places – she combines incredible experience with a wonderful talent for encouraging those around her to achieve more than they thought possible and have fun along the way. Any crew that Emily leads will always be a happy one!

As the group charts their course, they pause at enchanting islands along the way before reaching their final destination, the historic Bombay Royal Yacht Club. The adventure doesn’t conclude there; a warm welcome and a night’s stay at this opulent club are arranged, providing the ideal opportunity for participants to unwind and relish the memories of an unforgettable expedition.

More than that, a key ethos of the crew is providing a very personal service to the six guest crew on board. Expect to be contacted in advance of your trip to ensure the sail training and experience is well adapted to your needs and expectations.

You’ll have your own single berth in a shared cabin on board this small group adventure. It’s usually a 50:50 men/women mix and perfect for solo travellers to join.

Accommodation

The yacht is a 50ft open deck racing yacht which has been tastefully converted into a (fast!) cruising yacht. She has four cabins and is comfortable below decks with Air-Conditioning

We are waiting on more pictures of the yacht interior and exterior.

Meals

This voyage is designed for you to take an active role – that means everyone will take turns in cooking (all the menus are planned already and step by step instructions given, so you don’t need to be a masterchef!)

Who is this trip for?

All sail levels are welcome but for ocean voyages it’s advised that you’ve done some sailing already before going off shore on a big trip!

Many guest crew have or are working towards Day Skipper, or RYA Yachtmaster or similar and looking for mileage and expert guidance to improve their skills.

Perhaps you have a boat of your own and want some ‘expert’ experience.

Solo travellers are welcome. Crew’s are usually a 50:50 mix Male / Female.

If you want to learn and share an experience with others but tend to be less about “instagramming everything” and more about experiencing in real-time with the people you are with then you’ll fit in just fine!

Additional notes

DAY 1 – SATURDAY 2ND MARCH – ARRIVAL AND GREETING

Your journey starts in Male. You will join on Monday afternoon where you will be welcomed aboard the yacht.

After meeting your fellow crew and the skipper and settling into the yacht, we will run a safety briefing and start prepping for the adventure ahead!

We will stay overnight on board and may eat ashore

DAY 2 – SUNDAY – ALL PREPARED

After a relaxing nights sleep and breakfast on board, we will ensure we are fully prepped and ready to go – aiming to slip lines in the afternoon, or the following morning and head for the open ocean.

DAY 3 – MONDAY

Finally, today we slip lines and sail gracefully out of the marina and into the open ocean. The next 10 days will be spent cruising our way North towards Mumbai

You will be fully involved in life aboard – preparing meals for the crew, sailing at night and keeping track of progress – all part of a fully ‘hands-on’ expedition crew.

You may spot, whales, turtles or many other marine diversity on the journey and will surely have time to relax, enjoy the endless Ocean and talk to your crew.

We may also stop along the way, visiting some of the magical islands of the Arabian sea.

DAY 13/14 – SATURDAY

Arriving in Mumbai is a wonderful experience – the hustle and bustle of the city is a huge contrast to the open Ocean we’ve crossed until now. We will tie up at the historic Royal Bombay Yacht Club and after collecting belongings and putting the yacht to bed, head to the refined charm of this beautiful icon of Indian heritage.

Our last night will be spent in the comfort of this club – a beautiful and relaxing end to an incredible adventure.

Tour operator

There are few places as wild and unexplored as the open ocean. And if you’re going to explore it you’ll want to do so with an accomplished and experienced skipper alongside you at the helm. The skippers bringing these small group (max 6 guests) ocean voyages to life have at least half a million nautical miles under their belts so you’ll be learning from the best. Think small groups, amazing destinations and incredible ocean experiences. Whether you want the mileage for an RYA Ocean qualification, the thrill of taking a small boat to incredible destinations or the privilege of a sailing masterclass with hugely experienced skippers by your side, they’ll make it happen.
