On day one you will enter the Highlands; camping in mountain huts and enjoying the colour and grandeur of the Ryholit Mountains. Day two sees the trek reach Landmannalaugar; a verdant nature reserve where you can run past the hot springs that emerge from beneath the lush volcanic plains. Day three you can admire the largest volcanic canyon in the world; Eldgjá and the Ófærufoss waterfall that sits in the fissure of this ‘canyon of fire’.
As you reach the peak of this tour, you can run around the valley of Þórsmörk; one of the country’s most popular hiking destinations. The breathtaking beauty of this mountain ridge nestled between three glaciers is an unforgettable viewpoint. You will also get the opportunity to hike under the infamous Eyjafjallajökull glacier and volcano. 4 days of running or hiking on unforgettable trails in Iceland
Day 1: Entering the highlands
Pick up at international airport or your hotel/guesthouse in Reykjavík drive
to Landmannahellir. A 4 hours drive from the international airport brings you to the roots of the mysterious Mt. Hekla. After a short visit to the volcano you drive towards your mountain hut in the Icelandic highlands, where you will spend the next couple of nights. Running route of the day brings you around the green and black mountains of the area towards the colorful rhyolit mountains of the Landmannalaugar area. After the run the guide cooks dinner with the help of everyone from Icelandic food and gives you insight in the scandinavian cuisine.
Running: 15 km on soft trails

Day 2: Landmannalaugar
This starts with a short drive to the nearby Landmannalaugar. The area is now a popular destination of hikers because of the unique landscape that can be seen there. The landscape is characterized by colorful rhyolit mountains, as well as black lava from the middle ages with traces of obsidian. At today’s run you come across hot springs and mud pools too hot to bathe in, but very beautiful to look at. Your run starts and ends in Landmannalaugar and includes elevation of 1000 meters. After the run we recommend having a bath in the natural hot bath at Landmannalaugar. After the bath you drive to your mountain hut for relaxation.
Running: 20-25 km on mostly soft trails.

Day 3: Crater of Eldgjá
You start the day by running to the largest volcanic canyon in the world, Eldgjá. There is a waterfall named Ófærufoss in the bottom of the canyon and both the canyon and the waterfall belong to the Western territory of Vatnajökull National Park. After a visit to Eldgjá you continue to the valley of Þórsmörk where you spend the night.
Running: 20-25 km on soft trails.

Day 4: Þórsmörk (Valley of Thor)
You go for a morning run in Þórsmörk (valley of Thor) where you can get an overview of the valley and the three glaciers that surround the valley. The valley offers many trails to explore and mountains as well. On your way to Reykjavík you stop at the waterfall of Seljalandsfoss waterfall and get to Reykjavík in the afternoon between 4-6 pm.
