Sail Around the World – Join Legs of a Circumnavigation

Duration: 12 days
View Dates

A world voyage in stages — sail west around the globe.

This is adventure at its grandest scale: a three-year circumnavigation of the globe as hands-on guest crew aboard a Category 0, 70ft, steel-hulled, 30-ton, ketch-rigged sailing vessel, built for strength, comfort, and capability in the most remote waters on Earth.

Sailing west from Tonga, the journey crosses the planet’s most storied seas — from the volcanoes and reefs of the South Pacific to the spice routes of Asia, the coral-fringed atolls of the Indian Ocean, and the ice-strewn wonders of Antarctica.

Each leg offers a new world to explore.

The route includes:

  • 2026: Tonga → Samoa → Wallis & Futuna → Fiji → Vanuatu → Solomon Islands → Micronesia → Palau

  • 2027: Singapore → Malaysia → Thailand → Andaman → Sri Lanka → Maldives → Seychelles → Madagascar → Mozambique → South Africa

  • 2028: Namibia → St Helena → Ascension → Brazil → Uruguay → Argentina → Falklands → Antarctica → Chile → Peru → Galápagos → Easter Island → Pitcairn → Gambier → Marquesas → Tuamotus → Society Islands → Cook Islands → Niue → Tonga → Samoa → Fiji → Vanuatu → New Caledonia → Australia

Across 2026–2028, the voyage will trace an unbroken route through the Pacific, Asia, Africa, the South Atlantic and South America before returning to the Pacific once again — completing a full circle of the world by sail. Whether you join for one leg or several, you’ll become part of a global voyage few ever experience.

This isn’t a race. It’s about voyaging, cruising and exploring the lands you’ll reach as an active member of the guest crew. New and experienced sailors are welcome to join in.

The prices to join in vary per leg and a discounts are available for those considering multiple voyage legs or the whole circumnavigation.

Prices vary per leg — typically AUD 9,000–10,500 pp but a special full circumnavigation rate will be announced and there are discounts for joining multiple legs.

Accommodation

Life on board is comfortable, practical, and built for bluewater adventure. The 70-foot expedition yacht is purpose-designed for long-distance sailing — strong, spacious, and well-equipped for offshore passages. Below deck you’ll find inviting communal spaces for meals and briefings, plus cosy sleeping quarters arranged in bunk-style cabins. Facilities are simple and seaworthy, with shared heads and hot showers used on a “ship’s conservation” basis. On deck, a secure cockpit and generous working areas make it easy to take part in sail handling and watchkeeping. Expect hearty food, good company, and the steady rhythm of life at sea.

Meals

The yacht has a well-appointed galley and delicious meals can be prepared even in the most challenging conditions. The galley is fully equipped for cooking at sea and that good food is an important part of life on board, keeping the crew “well-fed and energised.”

Who is this trip for?

  • Adventurers seeking a true ocean passage experience
  • Travellers joining one or multiple legs of a global voyage
  • Those eager to learn seamanship and offshore sailing skills
  • Explorers seeking wild, remote and authentic experiences

Additional notes

This expedition yacht isn’t your average yacht. Designed by the renowned Laurent Giles and built in 1990 by AMARC (TES) in the UK, this Shipwright 70 was never meant for casual cruising. Originally launched as the iconic John Laing, her singular purpose was to brave the world’s most challenging waters and provide life-changing expeditions.

This vessel’s defining feature is that she was designed as an expedition yacht from the ground up and has maintained a UK Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) Commercial Category Zero survey—the highest level of safety certification available for commercial sailing vessels. While other boats might fail their crew in demanding conditions, her capabilities allow her to go where few others can.

Purchased in Tahiti in November 2021 by her current owner, Matt, she underwent a significant refit before being relaunched in May 2022. Since then she has proven herself as a formidable expedition yacht, logging over 40,000 nautical miles across the Pacific.
