Another World Adventures

East Greenland Sailing Expedition

Duration: 8 days
View Dates

Greenland compresses scale, silence and spectacle into something unforgettable. This one-week sailing expedition takes you deep into its wild Arctic heart.

This eight-day expedition sailing voyage takes you from Iceland into the vast fjord systems of East Greenland, exploring Scoresby Sound — the largest fjord complex on Earth — before returning to Reykjavik quietly changed by the experience.

Flying directly to the Arctic edge, you step aboard a traditionally rigged expedition sailing ship and spend a concentrated week navigating ice-filled fjords, landing ashore by zodiac, hiking in landscapes shaped by ice and time, and watching for Arctic wildlife.

Designed for those who value participation, learning and perspective, this is expedition travel with intent: hands-on, knowledge-rich and deeply respectful of place.

Life on board balances adventure with comfort — good food, shared stories, and the simple pleasure of a sauna after cold days in polar air.

Itinerary

This is true expedition travel. While the voyage follows a broad north–south arc through Scoresby Sound, daily decisions respond to weather, ice and wildlife — always prioritising safety and opportunity over fixed plans.
Day 1 – Fly from Reykjavik to Constable Point. Board the ship and sail to Ittoqqortoormiit, one of the world’s most remote settlements.
Day 2 – Sunrise near Sun Glacier. Sail among drifting icebergs in Arctic light.
Day 3 – Land on Red Island and continue through ice-filled Rødefjord.
Day 4 – Wildlife exploration: musk oxen, Arctic hare, grouse — and perhaps a glimpse of a gyrfalcon.
Day 5 – Sail Øfjord, where mountains rise nearly 2,000 metres straight from the sea.
Day 6 – Hike the “Arctic Riviera” around Jyttes Havn in the Bear Islands.
Day 7 – A long, contemplative sail back toward Constable Point.
Day 8 – Disembark and return by charter flight to Reykjavik.

Accommodation

The ship

This elegant 50 meter three masted tall ship captures everyone’s attention as she glides on the polar seas. She is very strong, capable, and best suited scouring the ice in the Arctic. Built in 1993, she has been sailing for more than thirty years around the northerly seas, proving that she is trustworthy and made for arctic adventures.

She will host you in her bright and comfortable main saloon, where plenty of windows provide a panoramic view for you to watch the waves roll by. Accommodation is made up of 5 twin bunk-style cabins and 2 single cabins. Home-cooked meals by the on board chef will be enjoyed in her main saloon, amid a well stocked library of polar literature. Day to day life on board is exciting yet easy-going: you will discuss the upcoming route over a hearty breakfast, plan your days activities, share life experiences over warm tea, and keep your binoculars in hand whilst we look out for wildlife.

Having been built in Finland there is, of course, a well-sized sauna on board, which will be the perfect refuge after a polar-plunge!

Meals

All meals will be prepared and served by a chef on board, and dietary requirements can be supported.

Want to join?

Anyone interested in joining this expedition should begin by making an enquiry here on the Another World Adventures website. From there, we’ll share full voyage details and help you take the next step: a short introductory call with the expedition team.

This conversation is a standard and important part of joining the voyage.

A proper expedition is shaped as much by the people as by the place. The expedition operator carefully curates each expedition team — bringing together individuals who share a spirit of adventure, curiosity and openness, while valuing the diversity of backgrounds and perspectives that make a journey richer.

The call is simply a chance to:

  • Introduce yourself and your experience

  • Talk through the realities of Arctic expedition sailing

  • Make sure expectations align on both sides

If you’re open to new places, new people and unforgettable landscapes, that’s usually all that’s required.

Once you enquire through AWA, we’ll guide you through arranging the call with the Expedition Leader and ensure you have everything you need to decide whether this is the right Arctic journey for you.
