Celebrate 75th Jeep Anniversary
Original post: Another World Adventures
Today we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Jeep wrangler. With a history dating back to World War 2 this military vehicle has became the favourite of many an adventurer.
Capable of tackling off road tracks through mud, sand or ice, it doesn’t matter how difficult the path is, you know that your Jeep will do its job and let you enjoy the journey.
The Jeep invention
It may surprise you to hear that this stunning vehicle was invented not for the love of adventure, but to fight a war.
In August 1941 the German army was occupying most of Europe and North Africa at a worrying speed. In order to contrast them, the American army commissioned the construction of a new vehicle. It needed to be incredibly resistant, able to go in every type of land, easy to repair, and also very light. And like this the Jeep was born.
After the war, a new model for civilians was ideated and it then became the preferred vehicle for overland travels. Thankfully, we today associate this amazing vehicle with adventure and freedom rather than fighting and killing.
Hence, we at Another World Adventures would like to celebrate the 75th Jeep anniversary with our pick of some truly great overland journeys…
