Extraordinary journeys are the thing that get us most excited. Whether they’re physical feats of endurance or a marathon of the mind that challenges your emotional or personal development as well as the strength of your muscles, we love them. Nothing gets our pulses racing quite as much as great cycle adventures.

Another World Adventures was founded during a great journey of its own, on board a tall ship during an Atlantic Ocean crossing to Brazil. It was one of many life-enriching journeys our founders Tori and Larissa have made over the years.

As part of our #Adventure365 celebration of epic adventures you can have every day of the year we turn today to the ambitious riders setting off this month for the Tour d’Afrique. This trans-continental journey crosses Africa from North to South covering almost 12,000 km in four months. In 2016 the organisers are celebrating their 14th edition of this great cycle adventure which is a true test of body, mind and, well, bicycle.

The route will travel through 10 countries seeing participants cycle the Nile, past ancient temples, through the Sudanese desert and the biblical landscapes of Ethiopia’s Simien Mountains. An Equator crossing in Kenya will warm them up for the views of Africa’s biggest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro before riders cruise to Lake Malawi, Victoria Falls and through the dusty desert edges of the Kalahari and Namib en route to the finish in Cape Town, South Africa in May.

As with every year there will be a cheerful competitive spirit to break the Guinness World Record that seems to be set each year for the fastest human powered crossing of Africa.
