Polynesia to Greenland: One Vessel, Two Years of Extraordinary Sailing Adventures
Original post: Another World Adventures
If your idea of travel involves ocean crossings, remote islands, wildlife encounters and becoming part of a working sailing crew, Tecla’s upcoming expedition schedule is packed with remarkable opportunities.
The beautifully restored 1915 Dutch herring drifter carries just 12 guest sailors and continues its global route through the South Pacific, Patagonia, Antarctica, Greenland and the North Atlantic over the next two years. Family owned and operated, the vessel offers a rare style of adventure travel that feels closer to exploration than tourism.
The journey begins in mid-2026 in French Polynesia. One of the standout voyages sails from Easter Island to Tahiti, crossing remote stretches of the Pacific while exploring some of the most isolated island groups in Polynesia. Later in the season, sailors can join newly added voyages through the Austral Islands south of Tahiti, a region of volcanic peaks, small island communities and very few visitors.
In August 2026, the focus shifts westward with a 31-day passage from Tahiti to Easter Island via the remote Austral Islands and Rapa Nui. The following month, the route continues from Easter Island to Puerto Montt, tracing a long ocean passage towards the dramatic fjords and channels of Chilean Patagonia.
By the end of 2026, attention turns south. The season’s headline expedition departs Puerto Williams in December for a 40-day voyage through Antarctica, South Georgia and the Falkland Islands. Combining icebergs, penguin colonies, historic exploration sites and true expedition sailing, it remains one of the most ambitious journeys in the programme and still has limited berths available.
The 2027 schedule continues directly from the Falkland Islands with a 55-day ocean crossing to St Helena and the Azores. Covering thousands of nautical miles and crossing the equator, it is one of the great long-distance sailing passages available to guest crew anywhere in the world.
From the Azores, the route heads north into familiar territory for the crew. A spring voyage sails to Ullapool before one of the schedule’s most atmospheric expeditions: a Viking-inspired passage from Scotland to Iceland via Orkney, Shetland and the Faroe Islands.
Summer 2027 is dedicated to Greenland. Voyages include the crossing from Iceland to Nuuk, exploration of Greenland’s spectacular west coast and a return passage from Greenland back to Iceland via Cape Farewell. Expect icebergs, whales, remote settlements, immense fjords and some of the most rewarding high-latitude sailing anywhere in the North Atlantic.
What makes these expeditions stand out is that guests do not simply watch from the sidelines. Everyone joins watches, helps handle sails, steers, navigates and becomes part of daily life onboard. With only 12 guest berths available, the experience remains intimate, hands-on and deeply connected to the ocean.
For travellers looking beyond conventional expedition cruises, this vessel’s upcoming seasons offer something increasingly rare: the chance to reach extraordinary places under sail, as part of the crew, one ocean passage at a time.
