Soundtrack to Adventure
Original post: Another World Adventures
Do you have a song that transports you back to an adventure memory as soon as you hear it?
I love how music can do that.
It’s probably why I’m such a fan of Playing for Change, an organisation that connects the world through music.
Many of their tracks involve hundreds of artists collaborating around the world.
I recently heard their track Words of Wonder and wanted to share it! Enjoy!
A few weeks ago I shared a newsletter asking my adventure seekers to tell me about a song or track that moves them to a memory of an adventure.
The stories were wild!
For one, A Whiter Shade of Pale by Procol Harum will always remind him of the time travelling through night by road in remote areas of Afghanistan between Taliban check points.
The drivers would ask if anyone had any international music downloaded on their phones as it was banned under the Taliban rule and sorely missed. With the little he had they’d take turns choosing a track and all singing along.
That track transports him back to the dark roads and precious memories shared.
And on the other side of the world memories were being made while pulling a 100kg sledge on a memorable expedition crossing the Southern Patagonian Ice Cap on a new route from Chile to Argentina in 1995.
The couple only had two records because of the extreme weight restrictions … remember travelling when music wasn’t digital! 😉 … they took the band Sweet Smoke and their album “Just a poke” and Pink Floyd’s album “Obscured by clouds“, reminiscing that the music was as psychedelic as the breathtaking nature they encountered each day.
It also fit perfectly with the tiny paper of acid they enjoyed half way through.
One of my favourites came from Michael who wrote to me to say:
“Way back in Jan 2014 I was feeling a bit flat. So I started to look for something that might help me feel better. Then one night I saw the movie The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty. I found the movie and the sound track very inspiring. So I started looking for a type of, I guess a Walter Mitty adventure of my own. Then I came across your website and saw the tall ship sailing adventure. I had never sailed on a tall ship before and no-one that I knew had either. So I thought why not, I had three months long service leave owing me from work. So I applied for three months leave and booked my adventure. It was the best thing I had done in my whole life. The captain and crew were all amazing. As well as all the other adventure seeking people on the trip. Now whenever I hear Dirty Paws it reminds me of my trip and it inspires me to look for my next adventure.”
So tell me yours! Drop me an email to larissa@anotherworldadventures.com I can’t wait to hear it.
