Itinerary

This expedition begins in Kiel, Germany, and returns there 30 days later after completing a spectacular clockwise circuit of the western Baltic. Rather than a fixed point-to-point itinerary, the expedition is divided into three distinct 10-day legs, allowing participants to join for one section, combine two legs or experience the complete voyage.

The first leg winds through Denmark's sheltered island archipelagos towards Copenhagen. The second ventures farther offshore, crossing open Baltic waters to Bornholm before arriving beneath the medieval skyline of Gdańsk. The final leg follows the beautiful German and Polish coasts, visiting historic Hanseatic ports on the journey back to Kiel.

As with all great sailing adventures, the precise route is shaped by the weather and conditions. Some days bring relaxed island cruising, while others deliver rewarding offshore passages where everyone becomes part of the sailing team. It's an itinerary led by the sea—ensuring every expedition is a li

Accommodation

Life on board unfolds aboard a beautifully maintained Baltic 51—the last yacht built in this legendary Finnish series and a true classic of offshore sailing. Designed for fast, comfortable passage-making, she combines outstanding sailing performance with a warm, welcoming interior, making her perfectly suited to long-distance exploration of the Baltic.

Accommodation is provided in comfortable shared cabins, with heating, hot water and a fully equipped galley ensuring life on board remains comfortable whatever the weather. Days are spent sailing between remarkable ports and islands, while evenings are often enjoyed moored in historic harbours in the heart of vibrant Baltic towns. Whether you’re joining for 10 days or the full expedition, the vessel quickly feels like home.

Four private cabins sleep up to eight guests but these trips have a maximum of six guests per trip, meaning there is plenty of space. Each cabin has individual berths and stowage. Two fully equipped heads with hot showers are a little luxury. The spacious saloon seats the whole crew comfortably around one table and is central to life aboard on passage days and in port. The well-equipped galley has a full oven, hob and fridge while heating keeps things comfortable on cooler Baltic evenings. At 51 feet, there’s genuine breathing room on deck and below.

Meals

All meals and non-alcoholic drinks are included while on board. Crew take turns helping with simple meal preparation as part of life on the yacht. Meals ashore during stopovers are at your own expense, giving you the chance to sample local cafés and restaurants in the Baltic’s historic ports.

Who is this trip for?

This expedition is ideal for adventurous travellers looking for a genuine hands-on sailing experience rather than a cruise. Whether you join for one 10-day leg or the full 30-day voyage, you’ll become an active member of the crew, learning offshore sailing skills while exploring some of the Baltic’s most fascinating coastlines.

Suitable for:

  • Solo travellers, couples and friends
  • Complete beginners through to experienced sailors
  • Anyone keen to build practical sailing skills and offshore miles
  • Travellers who enjoy active, small-group adventures
  • Those seeking a unique way to explore Denmark, Poland and Germany beyond the usual tourist trail

A reasonable level of fitness and mobility is recommended, as you’ll be moving around a sailing yacht at sea and taking part in daily sailing activities.

Tour operator

There are few places as wild and unexplored as the open ocean. And if you’re going to explore it you’ll want to do so with an accomplished and experienced skipper alongside you at the helm. The skippers bringing these small group (max 6 guests) ocean voyages to life have at least half a million nautical miles under their belts so you’ll be learning from the best. Think small groups, amazing destinations and incredible ocean experiences. Whether you want the mileage for an RYA Ocean qualification, the thrill of taking a small boat to incredible destinations or the privilege of a sailing masterclass with hugely experienced skippers by your side, they’ll make it happen.
