Cape Verde Sailing Adventure

Duration: 11 days
From: £1,500.00

A hands-on sailing voyage in the winter sun, exploring the remote Cape Verde islands on board a traditional tall ship!

Discover a remote archipelago on this Cape Verde sailing adventure. The voyages offer a mix of active, but comfortable sailing while exploring at least six islands.

Each day of sailing will be followed by a full day on the island of destination. At night you’ll stay at anchor and on most islands an excursion with local guides will be organised. Sunscreen and shades are a must when sailing in Cape Verde! Hooray for winter sun.

Cape Verde has a tropical climate. The sea temperature stays around 25 degrees Celsius and the often-strong Trade winds originate from the northeast. It rarely rains and the bright sun shines constantly. All islands are volcanic, but at the same time the terrain varies widely. The landscape consists of steep terrace fields with bananas and coffee plantations, sand deserts, black volcano’s and a fierce deep blue ocean. On some of the islands rare seabirds can be found. The waters are full of fly-fish, tuna, sea turtles and whales.

This is hands-on tall ship sailing, winter sun, wildlife and exploration at its best.

COVID-19 Update: The Cape Verde trips are confirmed for 2020/21 (as at 17/6/20)

The organisers will take measures to prevent infection on board including:
The maximum number of guests on board will be reduced. You will only share a cabin with a family member and never with a stranger. Are you travelling alone? If yes, will have a two-person cabin to yourself and pay a supplement of 30%. We will send you everything about the measures taken on board due to COVID-19 when you make an enquiry. If you are worried about a possible second outbreak, it is good to know that with this operator you can cancel free of charge up to a month before departure.

These voyages offer a good mix between active sailing and discovering a unique country. Every day (and sometimes night) of sailing, will be followed by a full day on an island. The landing places are carefully selected and in most cases there is an organised excursion ashore to give you a good impression of the island. Participating in the excursions is not mandatory; you can also explore the island on your own. The costs for the excursions are low and will be charged at the end of the voyage.

Adventure seekers looking for an exploratory hands on sailing adventure that includes land based discovery and epic tall ship sail training – experience not necessary but passion for adventure a must.

Tour operator

This fantastic three-masted topsail schooner is the last remaining representative of the large fleet of schooners that sailed under the Dutch flag at the beginning of the 20th century.

We love the brilliant voyages she undertakes that you can join, with no previous sailing experience, as voyage crew. Sailing with a large and genuine sailing ship like this is a very special experience. You join the crew sailing, steering and navigating the ship. Sailing experience is not required for this as the professional crew will explain and teach you everything you need to know.

There is an informal feeling on board and the main point of a voyage is to have a hands-on, active experience and exposure to the sea and sailing as well as the regions you travel between. That said, the ship is furnished comfortably and supplied with all modern conveniences.  All the cabins are fitted with a washbasin with hot and cold running water and there are separate sets of showers. In the spacious and stylishly appointed salon there are reading tables, seating areas and a piano.

Life on board is made even better by delicious meals prepared by a professional chef to fuel you up for a day’s sailing.
