Accommodation

Icehotel, Kiruna

Staying at the world famous and iconic Icehotel in Swedish Lapland is truly a memorable experience. The Icehotel is located in the small village of Jukkasjärvi with only 1000 inhabitants, 200 km north of the Arctic Circle, and backs onto the river Torne from which iceblocks are harvested in the springtime to recreate the icehotel each year. The hotel offers warm, and of course, cold rooms! The warm rooms are well-equipped with bright, modern and fresh furnishings typically Scandinavian style with ensuite bathrooms. The ice rooms vary in style from simple plain rooms to dramatic artistic displays. Sleep on ice beds within a thermal sleeping bag, you will be quite cosy but if in the morning you feel a little chilled, you can warm up in the sauna. Washing facilities are located close by to the ice rooms. The Icehotel offers a variety of winter activities, two restaurants giving a choice of high end gastronomy or more rustic fare and the Absolute Bar.

Brändön Lodge, Lulea

Set on an island, overlooking the frozen waters and scattered islands of the Luleå archipelago, Brändön Lodge is an adventure camp offering a choice of 15 recently renovated cabins. Each comes equipped with a bathroom, two twin-bedded rooms, a lounge area and a front facing covered porch. The camp’s main building includes a restaurant and relaxing lounge and guests are provided with winter clothing to make the most of the spectacular landscapes that surround it. Activities include tours of the pack ice by hovercraft and spectacular snowmobile safaris across the metre-thick ice of the frozen archipelago.

Tour operator

This operator is a multi-award winning adventure travel company specialising in small group tours and tailor made holidays to some of the most extraordinary destinations across the Indian sub-continent, Central Asia, the Middle East, Africa, South East Asia, Latin America and Europe.

We love their unique, original itineraries – whether they are for small group travel or individually created for tailor made clients – allowing you to take journeys that venture beneath the surface of the region. This operator concentrates on the locations they know and love. They don’t source itineraries from other agents, nor do they run the same tour over and over (thus creating a ‘tourist circuit’, spoiling an untouched region). Instead, they rarely run any group tour more than a couple of times a year on routes they have discovered for themselves, to give a truly authentic, off-the-beaten-track experience.
