Explore the Baltic Under Sail
Original post: Another World Adventures
When people think of sailing adventures, they often picture tropical islands, turquoise lagoons and palm-fringed anchorages. But one of Europe’s finest cruising grounds lies much further north.
We’re excited to introduce a brand new Baltic Expedition to the Another World Adventures collection—our first opportunity to offer hands-on sailing adventures in this remarkable region.
Long celebrated by European sailors for its island archipelagos, welcoming harbours and rich maritime heritage, the Baltic has remained surprisingly underrepresented in our own sailing collection. For many of our international travellers, it’s also a destination that often flies under the radar compared with the Mediterranean or Caribbean. We think it’s time that changed.
This unique expedition offers the flexibility to join for 10, 20 or the full 30 days, making it perfect whether you’re looking for a short escape or an epic month-long sailing adventure.
Setting sail from Kiel, Germany, the voyage follows an unforgettable circuit through the western Baltic, linking the vibrant waterfronts of Copenhagen and Gdańsk with idyllic Danish islands, dramatic chalk cliffs, medieval Hanseatic towns and rewarding offshore passages. It’s a chance to experience a region where every harbour has a story, every coastline has shaped centuries of seafaring history, and every day brings a new perspective from the water.
The expedition takes place aboard a beautiful Baltic 51 built by the renowned Finnish yard Baltic Yachts, a name synonymous with quality, performance and timeless design. Although she accommodates up to eight people, guest numbers are limited to just six, creating a relaxed atmosphere where everyone has the space and opportunity to get involved.
Rather than simply being a passenger, you’ll become an active member of the crew, taking the helm, trimming sails, navigating and standing watch alongside skipper Nigel Parry. With more than 300,000 nautical miles under his keel, including multiple ocean crossings and high-latitude expeditions, Nigel brings a wealth of experience and a calm, encouraging teaching style that helps both beginners and experienced sailors develop confidence and practical offshore skills.
It’s this philosophy that makes these voyages stand out. Exceptional adventures are created by combining remarkable yachts, outstanding skippers and small crews, giving everyone the chance to play a meaningful role on board. Instead of simply moving from port to port, you’ll experience the satisfaction of working together as a crew, embracing the rhythm of life under sail and sharing an adventure that is as much about the journey as the destinations.
What makes this expedition especially appealing is its flexibility. Join a single 10-day leg between Kiel and Copenhagen, Copenhagen and Gdańsk, or Gdańsk and Kiel—or combine all three into one unforgettable 30-day expedition. Whether you’re fitting an adventure around annual leave or ticking off a long-held sailing ambition, there’s an option to suit.
At Another World Adventures, we’re always looking to add journeys that broaden the horizons of adventure travel. The Baltic has long been a favourite cruising ground for those in the know, and we’re delighted to finally make it part of our sailing collection.
If you’re looking for a sailing adventure that’s a little different—rich in culture, history, rewarding passage-making and genuine participation—we think the Baltic might just become your next great adventure.
