A gentle adventure through thousands of islands where wild nature, simple comforts and Scandinavian summer culture meet.
Imagine a world of thousands of little islands, hidden coves, wooded islets and turquoise channels — yours to explore under the midnight sun. On this gentle summer sail from Helsinki to Turku (or optionally back to Helsinki), you will glide through one of the most evocative cruising grounds on Earth.
This trip is for curious sailors, slow-travel lovers and those yearning for a maritime summer with nature, simplicity and quiet discovery over speed or high seas.
We’re not racing — but exploring. Over about a week you’ll sail the labyrinth of the Finnish Archipelago aboard a comfortable Bavaria 50, stopping to explore remote islands, enjoy local cuisine and soak up coastal village life.
The Finnish Archipelago is like nowhere else — a vast archipelago shaped by glacial ice and Baltic waters, dissected into a maze of islets, skerries, narrow channels and sheltered anchorages. It is wild yet gentle, secluded but intimate. The seas are mild in summer, the light soft, and the air heavy with the scent of pine and salt.
In July the archipelago reveals its sunny, laid-back side — long days, warm water, inviting villages and remote anchorages; outside of that short season the islands retreat under long winters, making the summer months all the more precious.
This is a place where wilderness and civilisation sit side by side: quiet forested coves and, a short sail later, cosy harbours or tiny villages with rustic charm, seafood restaurants and serene local life.
Why you'll love this adventure
- Help set sails, steer and navigate if you wish — or chill while the skipper and mate do it :-)
- Drop anchor in secluded coves, help pick a spot, and either dine aboard or head to a local restaurant ashore.
- Explore islands on foot — forests, beaches, villages.
- Experience true slow cruising: no rush, no racing; just sea, wind, islands and stories.

Itinerary
Embark in Helsinki’s South Harbour and settle aboard before slipping lines for a quiet first night at anchorage near Porkala. Sail to the lively summer town of Hanko, a gateway to the archipelago with seaside restaurants and relaxed holiday vibes. Continue to idyllic Högsåra, famed for its local cuisine and peaceful atmosphere, with moorings reserved in advance. Venture out to the outer islands such as Jurmo, Borstö or Utö, where wild nature, remote anchorages and open-sea horizons offer a sense of true escape. Cross into the Åland Islands to visit Kökar or Sottunga, combining sweeping coastal scenery with a hint of medieval history. Head into the inner archipelago to Nauvo (or a secluded anchorage), with the option to dine ashore or enjoy a cosy evening on board. Accommodation
You will sail on the lovely Bavaria 50 “Branwynn”: a shallow-draft 5-cabin yacht, with a large cockpit and saloon perfect for cosy evenings, sea breezes and shared meals. It’s ideal for a relaxed, comfort-first cruise rather than competitive sailing.
The experienced crew know the Archipelago inside out — its hidden anchorages, its currents, its shifting moods — and are as keen to show you secret coves as to steer through channels. Their local knowledge (natural, cultural, historical) will enrich every mile.
Meals
A mix of meals aboard and ashore!
Who is this trip for?
-
- Adventurous yet comfort-loving travellers — those who want ease but also want to feel something.
- Solo travellers, couples, friends or small groups — adults (no small children) seeking a different kind of summer break.
- Anyone curious about sea-life, islands, nature, Northern summers — with or without sailing experience.
Additional notes
Over eight days of cruising you’ll sail between harbours, anchorages and islands, with plenty of flexibility depending on weather and group mood. Highlights may include:
-
Boarding in historic central harbour at Helsinki — orientation, safety brief and first night mooring.
-
First anchorage near Porkala for a quiet, wooded coastal night.
-
Coastal sail to the lively summer-town of Hanko — seaside restaurants, coastal charm, gateway to the archipelago.
-
Island-hop to idyllic Högsåra — a small island paradise known for its local cuisine and peaceful charm.
-
Venture into outer-archipelago islands such as Jurmo, Borstö or Utö — remote anchorages, wild nature, open sea feeling.
-
Cross to the autonomous Åland Islands — visit Kökar or Sottunga, where old-world history (medieval Dominican monastery remains) meets staggering coastal scenery.
-
Cruise into the inner-archipelago to Nauvo (or another sheltered anchorage), maybe dinner ashore — or simple boat-life under the stars.
-
Final sail to the riverside city of Turku — a chance to explore city life before disembarking.
-
Optionally: instead of disembarking at Turku, do a night sail back to Helsinki for a wee midnight-sun arrival.
Because the archipelago is what it is, weather and tides will guide much of the rhythm — flexibility is part of the charm.
Tour operator
These voyages aren’t about ticking boxes — they’re about living the sea. Expect salt spray in your hair, hands on the lines, and the thrill of carving a wake through wild horizons. Sailing usually takes place aboard a Swan 51 — an iconic design known for its elegance, power, and ocean-going pedigree. She’s fast, responsive, and built for long passages yet offers warm comfort below deck. For summer sailing in Finland they use their Bavaria 50 which is a shallow draft and perfect for cruising the bays and islands! The crew champion real adventure: purposeful and playful, where you learn, laugh, and push yourself in equal measure. What we love is their ethos: open-hearted travel that connects people, place, and planet.
