View Dates

Explore and sail the Southern Ocean towards one of the world's last wildernesses on board a family run tall ship where you are the crew.

Only 12 lucky guests are able to join this incredible vessel to discover the wonders of the Falkland Islands, the infamous Drake Passage, and the awe-inspiring Antarctic Peninsula – it’s a completely unique experience.

No sailing experience is necessary, as the professional crew will provide instruction on navigation, maneuvers, weather observations, furling the sails, and more.

Starting your daily explorations by dinghy, you’ll land on remote Antarctic shores, guided by our experienced crew. Wander through pristine white landscapes and visit some of the world’s largest penguin colonies.

Between landings, the sailing ship navigates through icy waters, passing spectacular icebergs and offering opportunities to spot whales such as Humpbacks and Fin Whales.

The Falklands: Wildlife and Rugged Landscapes

Before reaching Antarctica, your adventure begins in the Falkland Islands. Witness unique wildlife, including King Penguins and Rockhopper Penguins, while exploring rugged shorelines and dramatic cliffs.

Drake Passage Crossing: A True Adventure

Sail across the legendary Drake Passage, known for its challenging conditions and incredible wildlife sightings. If weather permits, your first landing in Antarctica will be at Elephant Island, steeped in history and surrounded by breathtaking scenery.

Antarctica Highlights: Unmatched Natural Beauty

Your voyage continues along the Antarctic Peninsula, where highlights include:

Deception Island: A volcanic island with an imploded caldera.

Paradise Harbour: Known for its serene beauty and dramatic ice landscapes.

Port Lockroy: A historic site offering a glimpse into Antarctic exploration history.

While on the peninsula, you may encounter seals such as the Leopard Seal and vast colonies of penguins, all against the backdrop of towering glaciers. Weather permitting, we aim to transit the stunning Le Maire Channel, renowned for its spectacular views.

Puerto Williams: The Southernmost Village

After exploring Antarctica, we’ll sail back across the Drake Passage and end our journey in Puerto Williams, the southernmost village in the world.

Accommodation

There are 6 cabins, each for 2 persons. The cabins are situated in the middle of the ship, which makes them as stable as possible.

Your bunk is inside one of the two person cabins. Your bed will be either the high or the lower bed of a bedbunk. All beds are over 80cm wide and 2 meters long. Each bed has a reading light for the evening hours. The cabins are ensuite. In a wet cell you will find a shower, of course with hot and cold water, and a toilet, that when possible flushes with outside water. In the cabin itself you will find a fountain and mirror. Your clothing can be stored in closet and your bag or suitcase can be stored under the bed.

Meals

On board the crew we do not work with a set menu. The menu is developed on board with influences of her surroundings. We try and cook with as many local fresh products as possible, this means that around the Canary Islands we eat a lot of tapas, peppers, plantanas (banana’s). In Brazil we eat a lot of fresh fruit, cow meat and rice. And around the North Sea, when it gets colder you will find some ‘stamppot’ (Dutch mashes potatoes specialty) with smoked sausage on your plate.

During a longer stay on board you will hardly ever see the same dish come by. Most of our meals are served with a salad or fruit on the side. During longer trips we take good care of our vegetables and fruit to ensure that you will enjoy fresh food as long as possible.

If you have an allergy or cannot eat certain food, please contact us with your dietary concerns. We provide a healthy menu were you will have enough choice.

We do not provide a vegan diet and on certain voyages we do not provide a lactose intolerant or gluten free diet.

We do provide sweet, savoury, hot and sometimes somewhat fat delicious food, but there is always a healthy choice next to it.

Additional notes

Please note that this is a possible itinerary and serves as a general outline for the voyage. All plans are highly dependent on wind and weather conditions, which may require adjustments to the schedule and destinations to ensure safety and the best possible experience for all onboard. Flexibility is key when sailing in these remote and unpredictable regions.

Day 1: Welcome Aboard

Arrive in Port Stanley, the lively capital of the Falkland Islands, at 18:00 local time. Step aboard your vessel and meet the crew and fellow expedition members. The evening will be spent with introductions, a safety briefing, and an overview of the exciting journey ahead. Relax and enjoy your first evening in this remote yet charming harbor town, surrounded by stunning landscapes and abundant wildlife.

Day 2-4: Discover the Wonders of the Falkland Islands

Set sail to explore some of the best spots in the Falklands. Depending on wind and weather, you’ll spend 1 to 3 days discovering the unique wildlife and breathtaking scenery. Highlights include visiting a King penguin colony, where you can marvel at these majestic birds in their natural habitat, and possibly a seal colony, where playful seals bask along the shoreline. You’ll also have the opportunity to explore rugged coastlines, windswept beaches, and the rich history of these remote islands.

Day 5-9: Crossing to Antarctica

Embark on the crossing to Antarctica, navigating the Southern Ocean. Your first landing is planned for the legendary Elephant Island, famously linked to Sir Ernest Shackleton’s heroic expedition. Here, you’ll witness dramatic ice-covered landscapes and may even spot seals and penguins along the shores. Keep your eyes on the horizon for whales and seabirds as you journey toward the White Continent.

Day 10-18: Exploring Antarctica

Sail along the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula, visiting iconic sites such as Deception Island, Paradise Harbour, and Port Lockroy, weather permitting. Each day offers something unique, from towering icebergs to glaciers and encounters with wildlife like whales, seals, and colonies of penguins. Explore dramatic volcanic landscapes at Deception Island, marvel at the serene beauty of Paradise Harbour, and discover the historical significance of Port Lockroy. Flexible planning ensures that your route is adjusted to make the most of the ever-changing Antarctic conditions.

Day 19-24: Crossing the Drake Passage

Begin your crossing of the infamous Drake Passage. This stretch of water, known for its challenging seas, is a rite of passage for Antarctic explorers. As the ship moves northward, enjoy the camaraderie of your shipmates, participate in onboard discussions or workshops, and reflect on your incredible journey. With luck, calmer conditions—often referred to as the “Drake Lake”—might await you.

Day 25-27: Channels Around Puerto Williams

Explore the picturesque channels surrounding Puerto Williams, located on Navarino Island in Chilean Patagonia. These final days provide an opportunity to immerse yourself in the wild beauty of Tierra del Fuego. Navigate narrow fjords, gaze at snow-capped peaks, and, if conditions allow, go ashore for a hike or two. Puerto Williams, the southernmost town in the world, offers a fitting conclusion to your adventure.

Day 28: Disembark in Puerto Williams

Disembark in the harbor of Puerto Williams at 10:00 local time. Bid farewell to your crew and fellow expedition members, carrying with you memories of a lifetime. Depending on your travel plans, take some time to explore this charming and remote town before beginning your journey home.

This enhanced itinerary combines thrilling sailing, awe-inspiring wildlife encounters, and the stunning natural beauty of the Falklands, Antarctica, and Patagonia, offering an unforgettable adventure to the ends of the Earth.

Tour operator

An old Herring drifter (Logger) built in 1915, the ship is 28 meters long over deck (38 meters overall) and takes 16 trainees on her voyages. No previous sailing experience is needed and experienced and new sailors love her equally.

A family of four professional sailors have owned and run this vessel since 2006 and sail her with true passion. Built for the North Sea she’s a fast sailor and her rigging is as traditional as it gets.

We love that the boat’s appearance is kept as traditional as possible yet combined with modern techniques and equipment. Everyone on board is part of the informal sail training program that is designed to get the best out of everyone whether you join for 2 days or a longer ocean crossing.

On September 13th she and her crew were the first traditional sailing ship to complete the North West Passage after Roald Admundsen with his ship Goya in 2013.
