Westbound is classic. Eastbound is earned. Sail the North Atlantic back to Europe.
A true west-to-east transatlantic crossing, this 3,500 nautical mile passage from Guadeloupe to Brittany is a more technical, hands-on alternative to the classic trade wind route. Sailing aboard a Challenge 67, you’ll leave the warmth of the Caribbean behind and work your way north and east across the Atlantic, navigating shifting systems and more varied conditions.
This is not a cruise – it’s a fully participative offshore passage. Life on board runs to a watch system (around 8 hours on duty per day), with everyone involved in sailing, navigation, cooking and maintenance. With no autopilot, you’ll be actively helming and trimming throughout. Expect around 28 days at sea, including a stopover in the Azores to regroup, assess weather windows and prepare for the final leg to France.
Demanding, rewarding and often described as the more interesting transatlantic, this voyage is about seamanship, resilience and the quiet satisfaction of making landfall in Europe under sail.

Transat crew member, a real adventure
We invite you to board as a “committed” crew member aboard a Challenge 67 , 21m monohulls built for crewed round the world with a stopover, for a period of around 28 days. This is a transatlantic and not a cruise.
Admittedly, you will start from the warm to go towards the cold , but those who have completed the two outward and return transatlantic races agree that the return transatlantic race is the most interesting. For what ? Because navigation requires more maneuvers and the weather is better if you stay on the edge of depressions. The fauna present during this navigation in the North Atlantic is also more attractive (whales, dolphins, etc.).
Stopover in the Azores on the island of Faial
For this navigation to France, a stopover takes place in Horta on the island of Faial for the needs on board, whether to cool down, a technical intervention or simply to discover Horta and its surroundings (depending on the duration of the trip). stopover).
This stopover makes it possible to observe the weather forecast for the last stage and possibly have a period of a few days of “stand by” if necessary. Don’t forget a stop at the unmissable Peter Cafe Sport for a drink, change the world and make your mark on the quay!
Depending on the weather conditions and the crossing time, only the skipper, your professional skipper, will be able to decide on the duration of the stopover.
A committed Atlantic crossing
You will embark as a crew member on board, supervised by 2 professional sailors, graduates Captain 200 Sailing and State Certificate. Thus, you will be subject to navigation shifts , approximately 8 hours per 24 hours, but also to stewardship shifts, cooking, washing up, etc.
Our ships voluntarily do not use pilots or furlers. It is, in fact, one of the best ways to discover offshore sailing . You will eventually have to endure bad weather, hot at first, then cold in the North Atlantic, sometimes “shit”. As a transatlantic crew member, you must therefore be psychologically ready to take part in a transatlantic.
The means of communication on board being almost nil (except for on-board safety), communications by satellite telephone (Iridium) or email are not offered on board. As you approach the coast, use your mobile phone to reassure your loved ones. Before your departure, tell them that you will only be contactable after your crossing.
It is also possible to embark in mid-March from the Azores, in Horta on the island of Faial, if the boat is not full from the Antilles. To know the calendar and the modalities of this offshore navigation from the Azores to Brittany please make an enquiry.
