Sail Westbound Transatlantic 2025
Original post: Another World Adventures
When you imagine ultimate freedom, what comes to mind? For us, it’s sailing across an ocean.
Days from land, beyond the reach of phone signals, cities, and the noise of modern life it’s just you and an oceanic wilderness. Overthinking and overwhelm become a thing of the past, whilst your body and mind falls into the rhythm of the sea. Days are spent living presently, in line with the weather, waves and currents – and time loses its grip. As you gaze at the endless blue surroundings, wind in your hair, it’s easy to feel utterly alive.
Sailing across the Atlantic is a unique experience, which beckons you to dig deeper, reconnect with yourself and be humbled by nature’s scale. It’s where strangers become shipmates, routines give way to intuition, and rare wildlife moments etch themselves into memory.
With the approach of the westbound Transat season, we’ve got some fantastic oceanic odysseys lined up. Keep reading to discover your Transatlantic adventure and answers to some of your Transat-related questions.
Sail across the Atlantic with Another World Adventures
Another World Adventures was born out of founder Larissa’s own oceanic odyssey – a Transatlantic crossing she undertook early on in her sailing career. Since then, Larissa has been working to provide others with the same opportunity. Here are some of our upcoming Transatlantic crossings:
Sail ARC Transatlantic 2025
Join the famous Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) as part of a crew of 10. You’ll spend around 20 days sailing across the Atlantic Ocean from the Canaries to St Lucia. This is a hands-on adventure, where the crew will be supported by two professional skippers and play a key role in keeping the boat going. Responsibilities will include sharing watch periods, cooking, sailing and aiding with navigation. There’s also the opportunity to help deliver the boat from France to the Canary Islands beforehand, where you’ll spend around 10 days at sea getting to know the boat and brushing up your sailing skills.
Dates available: November 2025
Sail to COP30 Atlantic Circuit Sailing Adventure
Take on a daring odyssey along ancient trade routes with a month long adventure from Portugal to Brazil. Feel the wind fill the sails of a two-masted tall ship, which will transport you using low carbon travel to the COP30 climate conference in Belem. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, to combine a Transatlantic adventure with an international environmental conference, so you can truly understand what it is to care for and protect our planet.

Transatlantic Sailing Tenerife to Falkland Islands
Spend Christmas and New Year at sea on an incredible 48 day voyage across two oceans. Departing from Tenerife on a family-run tall ship you’ll journey across the North Atlantic and the South Atlantic, crossing the equator along the way. With a crew of 16 you’ll have plenty of time to make new friends and catch up on reading en route to Argentina, whilst surrounded by magical seascapes. This is a true opportunity to disconnect, get into the rhythm of life at sea and to develop your sailing skills.

Atlantic crossing Cape Verde to Brazil
Start your adventure surrounded by the volcanic island landscapes of Cape Verde, before embarking on a 14 day voyage to Brazil. As you settle into life on a traditional tall ship you’ll learn about navigation, meteorology and boat maintenance through hands-on experience. Half way through the crossing you’ll stop off at the remote islands of Saint Peter and Saint Paul – a remote archipelago hundreds of miles from anywhere else. Then you’ll cross the equator and enjoy sailing with the southeast trade winds all the way to Fernando de Noronha.
Dates available: October 2025
Sail Across the Atlantic Ocean – Tenerife to Montevideo
Learn to sail a 100 year old traditional tall ship on this epic 44 day adventure from the Canary Islands to Uruguay. A route completed by fleets of trading ships over centuries past, it’s also a great opportunity to get up and close with oceanic wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for whales and dolphins and the shimmer and splash of flying fish. Try your hand at mid-sea fishing and if the weather permits, you’ll discover whether you’re brave enough to go for a mid-Atlantic sea swim. Regardless of experience, you’ll be involved in running the boat – from hoisting sails, to climbing the rigging, to steering the helm. When you arrive in Montevideo you’ll know what it is to be a sailor.
Dates available: October to December 2025

Sailing across the Atlantic FAQs
Curious about crossing the Atlantic? Here are some answers to FAQs to give you a better idea on what to expect.
How long does it take to sail across the Atlantic?
The duration depends on a few key factors: your route, the type of vessel, weather conditions, and whether you make stopovers along the way. Typically, an Atlantic crossing takes between 2 to 4 weeks at sea.
How hard is it?
That depends on you, the conditions, and your mindset. Some people love the solitude; others find the isolation challenging. Seasickness affects some but not all. Ocean crossings can be physically and mentally demanding – but they’re also deeply rewarding. It helps to understand your own strengths and potential challenges before departure. On all our voyages, you’ll be supported by experienced, professional skippers who guide you every step of the way.
Do I need sailing experience?
The level of experience required varies between trips. For some, having an RYA Competent Crew certificate or similar foundation is helpful, especially for understanding basic sailing skills, safety, and terminology. Many of our voyages are designed to help you build experience at sea, so even adventurous beginners are welcome – just check the trip details.
What time of year can I sail across the Atlantic?
There are two main windows for transatlantic crossings, timed around weather patterns and hurricane seasons. Westbound voyages (east to west) from Europe or the Canaries to the Caribbean are typically between November and January, when the trade winds are most favourable. Eastbound (west to east) journeys from the Caribbean or Americas to Europe are usually between April and June, after the Caribbean season ends and before the mid-summer storms.
