From Instagram Dream to Tall Ship Reality
Original post: Another World Adventures
One of the things we love most at Another World Adventures is helping people find the adventure that’s right for them. Sometimes that’s a remote trek, an expedition voyage or a wildlife experience. For Emily, it was a tall ship.
During her gap year, solo traveller Emily was looking for something beyond the typical backpacking route and discovered a two-week sailing voyage through the Caribbean. The journey took her from Saint Martin to the Bahamas aboard a traditional tall ship, introducing her to life under sail and a completely different way of travelling.
In her recent blog, Emily reflects on the things she expected, the sailing, the islands and the open ocean, but also the things she didn’t. The friendships formed during night watches, the shared effort of raising sails, reading in a makeshift nook aboard ship, climbing into the rigging, and watching dolphins play in the bow wave all became highlights of the journey.
It made me smile reliving those moments just as we had on our first tall ship adventure that inspired the creation of Another World Adventures!
What stands out for so many sailors is the sense of community. Guests and crew from different backgrounds came together through a shared willingness to step away from everyday life and embrace something new. By the time the voyage ended in the Bahamas, goodbyes were far harder than anyone expected.
Emily describes the experience as the highlight of her gap year so far. We’re delighted we could help her find the right tall ship, crew and voyage for her first big sailing adventure, and we’re grateful she trusted our guidance along the way.
Thank you, Emily, for sharing your story and allowing us to be a small part of the journey.
